SharePoint Service Pack 1 and SLK

I've just updated my MOSS server to service pack 1. I read up on upgrading my MOSS servers and looked into if anyone had any affects of upgrading with SharePoint Learning Kit installed. Well my environment didn't have any problems after the upgarde and SLK works fine. Useful links of upgrading http://www.sharepointblogs.com/erickraus/archive/2007/12/12/moss-service-pack-1-and-office-2007-service-pack-1-released.aspx Posted on SharePoint Blogs Del.icio.us | Digg It | Technorati | Blinklist | Furl | reddit | DotNetKicks

SharePoint and SharePoint Learning Kit on IPod Touch

For christmas I got a brand new IPod - something I wanted as I had filled my old 4GB one. I got the new IPod Touch with a capacity of 16GB. I can now fit all my podcasts on there and listen to the music I want instead of having to select before going out. For those of you who dont know the IPod Touch looks the same as an IPhone but without the phone features. It does come with a wifi connection which I connected fine to my home network with WEP encryption. You can then connect to youtube and watch videos that are streamed to your ipod. IPod Touch and the IPhone both come with Safari as their web browser. I put in my MOSS address - got the log on screen which is form based from ISA 2006 and it took me to my home page for MOSS. The layout was the same - no slowness to load the page. If you turn your IPod from vertical to horizontal it also changes the screen that way as well. One of the features with the safari web browsing is the you can double tap on the screen and it will zoom into that part of the screen. You also get a full standard onscreen keyboard and if you are typing away the screen will move to where you are typing in. I could add annoucements, view the calendar and update my internal blog. I also got onto my mysite but encounted my first problem. I have a inbox, calendar and contact (Exchange/OWA 2007) web part within my first page and these didn't load - got the error message - "Access to Calendar folder from Outlook Web Access Web Part is supported only for...

Introduction to the Microsoft Learning Gateway

The Microsoft Learning Gateway (MLG) consists of many products from Microsoft from Windows Operating Systems to the Office System. SharePoint is a product that is required to make up the MLG but other products that can be added, these are not necessary to make up your MLG. What does Microsoft say on the Learning Gateway? “The Learning Gateway from Microsoft is a solutions framework that helps improve education by integrating the tools you already use and putting them to work connecting people with the information and processes they need to teach and learn more effectively. “ It’s all about using Microsoft technology in teaching and learning. How it is used depends on the school/college/university and the processes within the school. What products does it include? Well it could be any of the Microsoft products – it depends on how you use it in teaching and learning. SharePoint is the main product as it can deliver content to the pupil through a web page but here is a possible list. Learning Gateway Version 3 includes the below list but you can use previous versions as they can be integrated as well. · Windows 2003 Server o All products are installed on the latest Windows Server technology o www.microsoft.com/windows2003/ · Active Directory o AD is used as the log on service for all users o www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/directory/activedirectory/ · SQL Server 2005 o The database server used for SharePoint, SharePoint Learning Kit as well as other products o www...

SharePoint Learning Kit: Default Alternate Access Mapping

SharePoint Learning Kit and MLG will only work with the public mapping address set in Central Admin. If you are using a different address other than the default that was set up as part of your install you need to edit it. Link below on how to do it. http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/be9d31d2-b9cb-4442-bfc6-2adcdbff8fae1033.mspx?mfr=true If you are configuring your MLG for ISA here is how to do it with your ISA and Central Admin http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/WSS/en/library/c8ccffce-5162-46af-a3ef-1d7914e8efee1033.mspx?mfr=true If you try and use a different access mapping address SLK will try and connect to the default address Posted on SharePoint Blogs Del.icio.us | Digg It | Technorati | Blinklist | Furl | reddit | DotNetKicks

SharePoint Learning Kit: Different Versions!

Some of you may be aware of this - some of you may not! If you have MLG you need to have the SLK web part that is provided with download from www.codeplex.com/mlg . If you have this installed already and then install the update from www.codeplex.com/SLK it will remove the option of SLK Observer which you require for some of the MLG components to work. I hope you will find this informaiton useful. Alex Posted on SharePoint Blogs Del.icio.us | Digg It | Technorati | Blinklist | Furl | reddit | DotNetKicks

SharePoint Learning Kit: Part 3 - rewriten and shorter.

I have decided to rewrite my last post - not happy with it going to shorten it. I thought for part 3 I would give a bit of a work through of SLK and assigning a document to a pupil. Install SLK Create a new Team Site Give your learners view access to your site Give your instructor for that class members access Enable SharePoint Learning Kit for that site Go to Site Actions Go to Site Settings Under Site Administration go to Site Features Make sure SharePoint Learning Kit is Activated You now need to tell SLK which users are learners and instructors. Go to Site Actions Go to Site Settings Under Users and Permissions go to Advanced Permissions Click on Visitors and check SLK Learners Click on Members and check SLK Instructors As part of the download of SLK, Microsoft has provided a SCORM learning resource called solitaire.zip. Upload this to your documents library within this site. When the documents has uploaded click on the downwards arrow next to the document name and click on E-Learning Actions. You will now see your site name in the middle of the screen. Click on your site name. You can now give a date and time for the assign to go to learners. A due date, if you want students to see the answers after you have returned it to them. You can also select which learners to assign it to. I've added screen shots to my photo album of this. Have a look. Posted on SharePoint Blogs Del.icio.us | Digg It | Technorati | Blinklist | Furl | reddit | DotNetKicks

Create a new site - I've called mine SharePoint Learning Kit. When you are creating it make sure you click on unique permissions. Add the learners as viewers and the lecturer as a contributor/members...

Sharepoint Learning Kit: Part 2

As in my previous post I said i was going to discuss Sharepoint Learning Kit (SLK) more indepth. So why use SLK? Well SLK replaced Microsoft Class Server 4. Used to create learning resources, assign then to students and class and then pupils can assgin the different questions. The question types included, true or false, multiple choice, fill in the blanks and essay style. Class Server has been replaced because when it was first created it was a standalone...
